PETER'S INTRODUCTION

2010-07-28

More than 24 year ago the older brother of my best friend bought a Commodore 64 and when I saw it I knew that I had to have one as well. So after bulling my dad for month’s I did get one and instead of playing games I started to code & draw. First in Basic later in Assembler and for drawing I used a (really crappy) program called Koala paint. I was a complete nerd (still am) and spend my entire free time together with my nerd friends making demos.

The demo was a kind of digital graffiti, an ‘interactive’ program in which we nerds were showing off our coding, visual and musical skills.  Our groups name was the Cool Crew and my handle was TLR Design (at the time that sounded really cool,…uhhh).  Within the demo scene I build my name as a graphics artist. So after a couple of years making demo’s, game coders started to ask me to make graphics for their game and that where my first steps into world of making games.  I made graphics for games like Artillery '90, Puzzle Shuffle and my own game Firepit.

Then came the Amiga and I started to make graphics & games for this nice new machine. So one day (1993) I did get a call from Tony with the question if I could make graphics for his game. I said that I would like to but that I had some ideas to make his game better. So we made something completely different. This game became Extrial (released in 1995) the first and only finished game we ever made. After that game I stopped making games and I started a career in 3D computer animation and digital design. This developed into my current work as an art-director in (online) advertising.

I kept in contact with Tony and when he 5(!) years ago showed me his first game engine on the PC we started to make plans for a new game-project.  This game-project consists of a game, the game engine and this blog/site. The coming time we will write about our passion for games and game development. And about how we are making our game.

So that’s about demos, games and me.
